Day Trip From Edinburgh To The Alnwick Garden

Updated: Jan 31, 2022

Cherry Blossom season happens just once a year at the beautiful Alnwick Garden by Alnwick Castle, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. With over 300 Prunus Serrulata 'Tai haku' trees it's a magical time to visit.

Reaching Alnwick

Travelling to Alnwick couldn't be any easier with a direct train (LNER) from Edinburgh Waverley Train Station to Alnmouth Train Station, taking only one hour. From there it's a short walk around the corner to Curly Lane to catch the X20 Arriva bus into Alnwick. The fifteen-minute journey takes you through the rolling countryside and onto the main street in Alnwick. The Alnwick Garden entrance is located opposite the bus stop. How easy is that?

I pre-booked my train ticket in advance and reserved seats on each specific journey (the train can be busy, as it's the one travelling to London).

Train Tickets; 1 x Adult Edinburgh to Alnmouth £14.40

1 x Adult Alnmouth to Edinburgh £17.00

Arriva Bus 1 x Adult return ticket £5.40 (You can now pay via contactless on-board the bus). Please note there is no service on a Sunday.

It's the same to return but in reverse. If you don't book your return train time please do check the train schedule.
