Updated: Mar 10, 2023

It saddens me terribly that there is so much plastic in the world, we're leaving our mark on a beautiful planet that younger generations are inheriting with devastating issues. Did you know that it can take up to 1000 years for a plastic bottle to biodegrade? Inspired by Totally Thames Festival, did you know that this month, July is #GoPlasticFree? I've been inspired to put together hints and tips on how you can take care of yourself and the environment with these great travel essentials. Here is what you can do to travel lighter and without plastic.

Packing Without Plastic

It is sad to see how much plastic has accumulated in our oceans. Did you know that plastic has been mainly used in just the last 40 years! With over 8 million metric tons of plastic entering our ocean every year it's an environmental disaster. The "annual consumption of plastic bottles is set to top half a trillion by 2021, far outstripping recycling efforts and jeopardising oceans" - The Guardian

Here is how you can make a difference

"If you think you're too small to make a difference, you haven't spent a night with a mosquito."

Toothbrush

Did you know you can purchase an environmentally friendly wooden toothbrush for the same price as a plastic one? And each brush sold helps a child in need.

Canvas Bag

We are all aware of the impact of plastic bags, did you know some countries have now banned them altogether including Italy, China, and South Africa as well as many others. While some countries including the UK have introduced a tax, with the money raised going toward recycling initiatives. Why not invest in a colourful canvas bag that you love and have at the ready, folded inside your handbag for those last-minute shopping sprees or holiday breaks?
