Thermal Pools

Updated: Dec 16, 2019

One of the worlds most famous thermal pools is the Blue Lagoon in Iceland, but did you know there are many more! Created by the emerging of geothermal heated groundwater that rises from the earth's crust. While some are so hot that bathing would result in injury or death, here are some that are tranquil, soothing and good for mind, body & soul.

The Worlds Most Relaxing Thermal Hot Spring Pools

Poring Thermal Springs

Poring is located south of Kinabalu National Park in Borneo, with the Poring Hot Springs one of the must visit attractions. We took a day trip from the National Park but you can also stay at the Sutera Sanctuary Lodges. It is an ideal location to relax and explore the area with tree canopy walkway, butterfly farm and possibly see the Rafflesia. One of the worlds largest flowers!

We ran out of time but would go back in a heart beat. It's a beautiful location with beautiful people and great food too at the Rainforest Restaurant!

Beitou Hot Springs, Taiwan

One of the most popular places to enjoy the hot springs in Taiwan is the town of Beitou. An easy day trip from Taipei. The town is buzzing with activity from the public hot springs, to the Liuhuanggu Sulphur Valley. The oldest hot spring in Beitou is now a museum (was due to re-open in October 2018 after restoration work).

We took the opportunity to experience a private hot spring bath at the five star Grand View Resort. It was extremely easy to organise. With just a quick email, confirmation of the complimentary hotel pick up from Beitou Station, we were all set.

The room comes with complementary robes, slippers, herbal teas, water and a sweet desert. There is a range of private bathing suites available, with a variation in cost depending on the size of the bath (each only available for 2 persons).

We booked the 26 - 29 square metres for 90 minutes at NTD $2,800 today £70.00 GBP.

Everyone was very helpful and friendly. After all the walking this was a welcome treat!
