From Tree To Toast - Avocado

Updated: Mar 21, 2023

While travelling the world you pick up a taste for different foods. Now, I can't wait to return to Key West for its delicious Key Lime Pie Ice Lolly! Yum. I also have a love of avocados. When I heard about The CADO - the world's first avocado museum it struck a cord and I couldn't wait to share! Holy Guacamole.

From Tree To Toast - Avocado

The CADO - the world’s first avocado museum

Scheduled to open this month at Liberty Station in San Diego - The CADO. Stated as the world’s first avocado museum. Visitors will experience seven immersive rooms including The Ripe Room, where they’ll learn how the avocado journeys from tree to toast, to The Powder Room, which educates visitors on the beauty and wellness benefits of avocados. The aim of the museum is to educate visitors that there’s much more to the avocado than just being an Instagram favourite.

Peace, Love, Avocado!

Health

"Avocado is high in fat, which means its calorie content is higher than most other fruit and veg. An avocado has around 280 calories. It’s worth noting that just half an avocado counts as one of your 5-a-day.

Most of the fat in avocados is heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, one of the healthiest types of fats also found in rapeseed and olive oils. Monounsaturated fats have been shown to help lower levels of ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol whilst increasing ‘good’ HDL cholesterol and can also help reduce inflammation.

Avocados are packed with nutrients including being a source of vitamin B6, vitamin E, potassium, copper and fibre.

Fibre is often lacking in our diets and avocado provides both soluble and insoluble fibre, so is beneficial for our healthy gut bacteria as well as digestion. The fibre and healthy fats in avocados may also help you feel more satisfied after eating and could help with appetite regulation and maintaining a healthy weight.

Potassium is essential for normal cell functioning and helps the heart muscle work properly. Increased dietary intake of potassium has been associated with a decrease in blood pressure, as it helps the kidneys excrete sodium. Potassium is found in a variety of fruits and vegetables including bananas, although weight for weight, avocados actually contain more potassium.

Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant and helps protect cells from oxidative damage. Avocados provide a wide variety of antioxidants, and due to their fat content, they can also help the body absorb antioxidants and fat-soluble nutrients from other foods eaten along with them" - Dr Laura Wyness
