Edinburgh Zoo's Giant Lanterns Make Spectacular Return

The magic begins as soon as you approach Edinburgh Zoo, with incredible silk lanterns lining the path to the large, giant lantern display at the front. Wrap up warm for the 1.3km (0.8Miles) trail that takes you walking under giant lantern whales to crabs. With some 20ft high! You are in for a real treat.

There are maps highlighting where the giant lanterns are located, and giant illuminated arrows marking both step and step-free route options. Toilets are available at the start as you exit the ticket office doors. There are also some at The Gannet Fish Bar (family restaurant).

You might like to stop at The Gannet Fish Bar to enjoy some of the delicious snacks available, including hot dogs and baked potatoes. I can highly recommend the loaded fries with haggis and peppercorn sauce. Yum. There is also a cake and hot drink stand at the beginning of the trail and a marshmallow stand towards the end.

This was our first visit. I can't believe we haven't visited before. It was amazing! Our visit was just over two hours. We could have stayed longer (wet weather). Brilliant photo opportunities and lots of reflections. The giant lanterns are very impressive and mesmerizing.
