RENT the musical, by Bare Productions (an Edinburgh-based theatre company), is currently showing, as part of this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe lineup.
Based on the indelible love story of Puccini’s La Boheme (1896), RENT is a rock opera documenting the year in the life of a group of friends, in Lower Manhattan's East Village, New York. The musical tells a story of penniless artists and their struggles; navigating broken relationships, poverty, homelessness, and isolation amidst the AIDS crisis. Written by the late Jonathan Larson, this evergreen musical of social exploration is a hymn to life and love in its abundance of forms.
Bare Productions is an Edinburgh-based theatre company committed to providing opportunities for amateur performers, through professional standard shows. Bare launched in September 2017 and made their debut production with the sell-out musical ‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’ followed by five-star hit ‘The Addams Family’ and subsequent rave-reviewed productions ‘We Belong’ and ‘Kinky Boots’.
