The Fairtrade City of Edinburgh

Updated: Mar 14, 2023

Edinburgh University became one of the first universities, in Scotland to gain Fairtrade status in 2004. Then in 2013, Scotland became a fully Fairtrade nation. Did you know that Oxfam traded in Scotland as early as the 1960's selling handmade Christmas cards and handicrafts from developing

countries.

Fairtrade Chocolate

Chocolate is one of the world's most favourite foods, but also one of the most difficult to grow. Fairtrade is making it more sustainable. Did you know over 90% of the world's cocoa is grown on small family farms in Africa, Asia and Latin America?

When buying Fairtrade you are helping with reinvestment and projects going to the local people. As well as helping others, you can enjoy a healthy treat too! As organic dark chocolate is better for you. It's said that eating a small amount of chocolate everyday could reduce heart disease and diabetes.

There are a number of great Fairtrade chocolate bar flavours available.

Equal Exchange Chocolates - Organic & Fairly Traded Dark Chocolate Caramel Crunch with Sea Salt

The dark chocolate caramel crunch with sea salt was bitter to the taste. One to enjoy in small quantities.

Equal Exchange Chocolates - Organic & Fairly Traded Dark Chocolate Orange Infused

The dark chocolate orange-infused was delicious! The dark chocolate is still bitter but has that extra sweetness from the orange.

Equal Exchange Chocolates - Organic & Fairly Traded Dark Chocolate Lemon Ginger with Black Pepper

Dark chocolate lemon ginger with black pepper was really enjoyable. My favourite flavour so far! It has quite a distinctive taste from the ginger and black pepper. Yum!
